Guizhou, China (about 200 mya), 20" x 24"

This professionally prepared volcanic stone matrix features the authentic fossilized remains of a small prehistoric reptile called Keichousaurus hui.

This species of marine reptiles became extinct about 200 million years ago at the close of the Triassic period. Highly adapted to the acquatic environment, they ranged from 15 - 30 cm. in lenght, had both long necks and long tails, with elongated, five-toed feet. The pointed head and sharp teeth in this genus also indicate that they were proficient fish hunters.
